Dorothy Lee’s NO MORE ASH was born from legacy, love, and lived experience. Inspired by my mother, Dorothy Lee Jackson—a proud Midwestern mother of seven—this brand honors her tireless efforts to keep her dark-skinned children healthy, cared for, and ash-free. For her, skincare was more than appearance; it was about dignity, self-respect, and how the world saw us.
Story
In the 1950s, options for people of color were limited. Vaseline, Crisco, and margarine were often used as makeshift moisturizers to bring sheen and hydration to our skin and hair. Families also created their own essential oil blends, combining coconut or olive oil with whatever natural ingredients were available.
These passed-down recipes became rituals of care—acts of love rooted in resourcefulness and tradition.
Today, NO MORE ASH continues that heritage by crafting plant-based, chemical-free skincare and hair oil made for melanin-rich skin. What began as a mother’s care has grown into a community-driven brand—one that celebrates culture, honors our roots, and restores the natural glow that’s always been ours.
